Neuropsychology

Neuropsychology is a scientific discipline which bridges the fields of neurology and psychology. This discipline includes researchers, teachers, and clinicians. Clinical Neuropsychologists apply scientific knowledge about the relationship between brain function and mental performance to help answer diagnostic questions about medical patients. Neuropsychological assessment is a set of procedures designed to evaluate changes in mental abilities and personality as a result of neurologic disorder. The core activity is the administration of tests of mental abilities such as memory and reasoning. An evaluation may also involve assessment of change in personality, behavioral, and emotional functioning that might reflect neurologic dysfunction or psychological reaction to disease. Neuropsychological testing provides a wealth of practical information useful to both the referring physician and the patient. Test results can help clarify the nature of cognitive difficulties and support the formulation of plans for treatment, remediation, and psychological adjustment.

The Society

The Society was created to:

  • Promote research of brain-behavior relationships.
  • Enhance communications among those scientific disciplines which can contribute to the understanding of brain-behavior relationship and neuropsychological disorders.
  • Enhance education into neuropsychological disorders.

Professional Affairs

The Professional Affairs Committee was re-established in 2007 as a way for MNS to actively engage in advocacy issues related specifically to the daily practice of our members. It’s mission is to emphasize local issues such as billing, interacting with specific insurance companies, protecting the integrity of our testing materials, and supporting training programs. The Professional Affairs Committee is also fostering ties with APA, INS, NAN, and other national organizations with similar agendas that allows us to take a “big picture” approach to our local dilemmas, as well as keep us apprised of issues that may come our way.  We encourage you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

Student Affairs

These lectures are sponsored by the Student Members of MNS and are designed to introduce students of Neuropsychology to the field of practice.
